MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Rodante Marcoleta on Tuesday urged his fellow senators to “find ways” for him and detained Sen. Jinggoy Estrada to participate in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Marcoleta and Estrada, who are members of the minority bloc perceived as pro-Duterte, face plunder cases before the Sandiganbayan.
“I filed a manifestation in the Senate, where I presented the legal reason why the Senate needs to find proper ways so that Senator Jinggoy and I can participate in the ongoing impeachment trial,” Marcoleta said in an ambush interview at the anti-graft court, where he attended the pretrial conference for his case in the Third Division.
Marcoleta noted that his imprisonment does not change the fact that he is one of the 24 senators who would vote to either acquit or convict Duterte.
