MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Sunday denied allegations that the plunder case filed against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta and his election campaign donors were politically motivated, saying that the complaints stemmed from evidence and admissions coming from the senator himself.

In an interview on dzMM, Palace press officer Claire Castro said the Marcos administration had no hand in the investigation and filing of the cases, which were initiated by the Office of the Ombudsman, an independent constitutional body beyond the control of the executive branch.

“The recommendation came from the Ombudsman itself. The Ombudsman is not part of the administration,” Castro said.
