The Cyprus Community of the Northern Territory gathered in Darwin, Australia, to mark the 52nd anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, honoring those who lost their lives, remain missing and were displaced during the events of 1974, The National Herald reported.
The commemorations began with a memorial service at a local church, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony attended by community members, clergy, dignitaries and elected representatives.
Among those attending were Deputy High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to Australia Nikolaos Varellas and Federal Member for Solomon Luke Gosling, who joined community leaders in paying tribute to the victims of the invasion.
The events concluded with a community luncheon at a nearby hall, where attendees gathered in remembrance and solidarity.
In a statement issued after the commemorations, the Cyprus Community of the Northern Territory thanked those who participated and helped organize the event.
