Defense Minister Nikos Dendias on Monday marked the anniversary of Turkey’s 1974 invasion of Cyprus by honoring those who died, went missing or fought in defense of the island, while reaffirming Greece’s support for Cyprus.
In a post on the social media platform X, Dendias said the memory of the events remains alive decades after the invasion.
“We honor the fallen, the missing and all those who defended the freedom of Cyprus,” he wrote.
Dendias said the Cyprus issue “remains a matter of illegal occupation,” adding that Nicosia “cannot remain the last divided capital in Europe.”
