Defence Minister Nikos Dendias marked the 82nd anniversary of the Normandy landings with a message posted on the social media platform X, paying tribute to the Allied forces that participated in one of the most significant military operations of the World War II.
“Eighty-two years later, we honor the memory of the tens of thousands of Allied troops who landed on the beaches of Normandy. They paved the way for the liberation of Europe from Nazi occupation,” Dendias stated.
The Defence Minister also highlighted Greece’s contribution to the Allied war effort, noting that Greece was present in yet another major operation in the cause of freedom, through the participation of the Hellenic Navy corvettes Tombazis and Kriezis.
