Durban City are no longer just a promoted team trying to make their landing stick in the big leagues. Instead, they are now a fully flegded team that needs to find capabilities against the best teams in Africa.
Durban City winning the Nedbank Cup last season was a blessing and curse. A blessing for the obvious reasons but a curse because of the demands that comes with playing in the CAF Confederation Cup while juggling the domestic league and it's subsequent Cup tournaments including the MTN8, Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup.
Last season, the team looked complete defensively, even strong enough to hold off Orlando Pirates in Orlando Stadium to a 0-0 draw. The Citizen's defence has shown composure beyond their years. It is in the final third where the team struggled.
Durban could not win a match in the last 10 games of the previous season, raising serious questions about their attacking unit. Joslin Kamatuka started off the season with some bounce in his step, but injuries caught up with the Namibian forward, prompting Jean Lubumba into action.
