Newly appointed Durban City coach Khalil Ben Youssef faces the mammoth task of debuting against his old nemesis and reigning league champions, Orlando Pirates, in the MTN8 next month.
Ben Youssef kicks off the season with Durban after their impressive eighth-place finish in their maiden Betway Premiership campaign. That debut season began under veteran coach Gavin Hunt, with Pitso Dladla serving as his assistant.
However, securing that final top-eight spot brought the daunting burden of drawing the title holders, Orlando Pirates, in the cup opener. Yet, with standard transfer-window speculations surrounding top talent, Ben Youssef and Durban City will be crossing their fingers that the Buccaneers lack some of the bite that defined their previous campaign.
The last time the Tunisian tactician locked horns with Pirates during his tenure as Kaizer Chiefs co-coach, the Soweto Derby ended in a frustrating stalemate, following a bruising 3-0 thrashing in the fixture prior. Now, Ben Youssef leads a new, hungry Durban City side playing with a massive chip on their shoulders.
