A man was sentenced to time served for manslaughter on Tuesday for his role in the death of Ryan Williams, a “balcony surfer” who lost his grip and fell to his death while trying to escape a fight in his downtown Toronto apartment.
Joshua Pilgrim and three others had shown up at the 38-year-old victim’s Church Street and Shuter Street apartment on April 24, 2024, looking to get back cases of Ensure nutritional supplement drinks that Williams had taken from one of the members of the group. As Williams fought with another man, Pilgrim threatened him with violence, as he believed Williams had stolen drugs from him. This prompted Williams to try to escape via the balcony of his eighth-floor unit.
