A grocery store clerk who pumped seven bullets into a young man who had “armed” himself with a garden light during an altercation in Toronto’s west end was sentenced to life imprisonment Thursday.
Last month, Daniel Lara‑Orellana, 28, pleaded guilty to second‑degree murder — the charge he was about to stand trial on. In doing so, he admitted that after shooting Munawar Warsama once and causing him to collapse, he fired six more rounds into the 25‑year‑old as he lay screaming and dying in an alleyway near Bloor Street West and Ossington Avenue just after 10 p.m. on April 14, 2023. He suffered gunshot wounds to his head, chest, shoulder, wrist and hand.
