According to the military, the operation was carried out by troops of the 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Sector 4 of Operation DELTA SAFE, during a routine anti-illegal oil bunkering patrol along the Onna–Etinan Road.

The Nigerian Army has said its troops intercepted a vehicle conveying 1200 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, during an anti-illegal oil bunkering operation in Akwa Ibom State.

The army disclosed the operation in a post on its official X account on Tuesday, stating that the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush after sighting troops.

The statement was signed by Captain Lawal Bala Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade Nigerian Army.
