The Nigerian Army says it has dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile area of Lagos State, arresting six suspects and recovering petroleum products and vehicles allegedly used for the illicit operation.
The Army said the operation conducted by it troops of 65 Battalion followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected economic saboteurs operating within the area.
It added that the suspects and recovered exhibits had been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Illegal bunkering and crude oil theft have remained major economic and security challenges in Nigeria, costing the country billions of naira in lost revenue annually.
