The IEC has called on political parties and prospective independent candidates not to miss the strict deadline for the submission of the upcoming local government elections' candidate lists.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has reminded political parties and prospective independent candidates that it will be strict on the deadline for the submission of the candidate lists for the upcoming local government elections.

Currently, online candidate submissions have been opened for parties and those who intend to contest ward elections independently to start capturing.

The submission of the candidate lists is expected to come to an end soon after the last election registration week, which might be next Saturday and Sunday.

IEC’s David Mandaha said on Tuesday that the commission would not divert from its strict adherence to the deadline, which he said would be about a week after the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Minister, Velenkosini Hlabisa, had proclaimed the election date.
