Meta switched on voice and video calling inside WhatsApp Web on 28 July 2026, eleven years after the browser client launched with everything apart from the feature people open a messaging app to use. One-to-one and group calls both work, group calls seat 32, and screen sharing, reactions and a full Calls tab arrive with them. Calls are end-to-end encrypted, free, and they run until somebody hangs up. Four more features ship alongside: Call Transfer, Waiting Room, QuickHD and noise suppression. The release looks like a consumer gift. It functions as repair work. Meta deleted the native Windows client in November 2025 and replaced it with a browser in a box, which left the company's desktop product dependent on a web client that could do everything apart from ring somebody.
