South Coast Railway (SCoR) General Manager Sandeep Mathur on Tuesday presented Safety Awards to four employees for exemplary vigilance and timely intervention in averting potential accidents.This marks the inaugural presentation of Safety Awards by the General Manager since the formation of the South Coast Railway zone.M. Ramesh Babu, station superintendent at Chirala in the Vijayawada Division, was honoured for his alertness on June 2, 2026. While exchanging signals with an Up Goods train, he noticed broken iron strips securing iron coil rolls on two wagons. His prompt communication with the loco pilot and control office ensured the train was halted at Vetapalem, preventing potential obstruction and derailment risks on adjacent tracks.Shivam Dixit, pointsman at Yerpedu in the Guntakal Division, was recognised for detecting a slack fish plate and a weld crack on the Down Main Line within the Yerpedu Yard late at night on June 15, 2026. His immediate notification to station authorities enabled swift engineering intervention.M. Praveen Kumar, senior assistant loco pilot from Guntakal, was commended for spotting a red-hot wheel on a passing freight rake while operating Train No. B-15 on June 1, 2026. His quick use of the walkie-talkie and alerting the opposing crew, lead to a timely stop and detection of a hot axle at Bantanahal.Ch. Ram Mohan Rao, train manager from the Visakhapatnam Division, was felicitated for observing a hot axle on an adjacent Up Goods train while working the Yesvantpur–Howrah Express (Train No. 12864) on May 9, 2026. His relay of information to the coaching controller and Vizianagaram station enabled carriage and wagon staff to promptly rectify the mechanical defect.General Manager Sandeep Mathur lauded their dedication and high sense of responsibility.
