’The city police carried out surprise drug test of college students on Tuesday, and found one student positive.The surprise drug test was conducted at Kotekar Beeri and Bunts Bhavan, Konaje. The test was done by police personnel from South and Central Sub Divisions headed by the respective Assistant Commissioner of Police, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order) H.N. Mithun. This was done between 4.30 p.m. and 6 p.m.In a press note, Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said students commuting in private and college buses on the routes were tested. A total of 72 students were tested using multi-drug testing kits at Kotekar Beeri. While 71 were tested negative, one tested positive. The student will be sent for counselling, after legal formalities.At Bunts Bhavan in Konaje, 87 students were tested by stopping two buses of the college. All the results were negative.Mr. Reddy said it was encouraging to see that only one student tested positive. Though percentage of students testing positive was coming down, still a lot needs to be done to free the city from drug consumption and sale, he said in the release.
