The permanent campus of the Pondicherry University in Mahe region of the Union Territory will be ready by the next academic year.In a release, the university said the Puducherry government had completed the procedures to transfer around three acres of land to the institute at Chalakkara in the enclave of Mahe. The transfer of the land followed a cabinet decision taken in January this year to lease the property to the university for a period of 19 years for a fee of ₹5 per annum.Prior to that, the university had posted Rajeesh Viswanathan, Professor and Head of the Department of International Business, School of Management as the Officer on Special Duty to carry forward the project pending since 1989, the release said.The project would benefit the students of the Union Territory, Kerala and Southern Karnataka. The university has plans to start construction work in September and commence classes on the new campus from the next academic year. It has planned to introduce cutting-edge courses aligned with contemporary employment trends such as MBA in International Business, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Banking Technology, Fin Tech and Data Analytics. The courses would provide new horizons to the youth and the community at large, the release said. Beyond advancing educational opportunities, the new campus is poised to help sectors such as tourism, hospitality and allied industries in the enclave to thrive, the release further added.
