Brothers Ferrel and Darren Govender are currently on trial for the murder of Durban businessman Shailen Singh. Ferrel is further facing other 13 charges, which included the attempted murder of his girlfriend, Salona Ramrutton/Kisten.
A State witness broke down in tears in the Durban High Court on Tuesday as she described the condition in which she found Salona Ramrutton/Kisten at a hospital in Umhlanga after she was allegedly assaulted by former security boss Ferrel Govender on December 22, 2024.
“She was bruised all over her body — her legs, her hands, and her back. Her face was three times its normal size,” the witness testified before becoming visibly emotional.
The witness, whose identity cannot be disclosed for security reasons, told the court that she had opposed any attempt by the couple to reconcile because she believed her best friend, Ramrutton/Kisten, had been subjected to ongoing physical abuse by Govender.
Ramrutton/Kisten is at the centre of an alleged love triangle involving Govender and Durban businessman Shailen Singh. The State alleges that after discovering the alleged affair, Govender and his younger brother, Darren, shot Singh dead in Umhlanga on December 29, 2024.
