Govender brothers Darren and Ferrel at the Durban High Court on Friday.

The defence has accused a State witness of withholding details about the day murder-accused Ferrel Govender allegedly assaulted and attempted to kill his girlfriend, Salona Ramrutton/Kisten, after accusing her of having an affair with businessman Shailen Singh.

The allegations emerged during the witness’s cross-examination in the Durban High Court on Friday morning, where Govender and his younger brother, Darren, are on trial for Singh’s murder. The State alleges the brothers shot Singh dead in Umhlanga on December 29, 2024, after Ferrel discovered the alleged affair.

Advocate Mike Hellens SC, representing Govender, put it to the witness that she had not given the court a complete or chronological account of the events of December 22, 2024.

“Things didn’t happen the way you describe them. There is something you are not revealing,” Hellens said.
