German solar developer ESG-Solar (Energiesysteme Groß), known as ESG-Solar, has opened a megawatt charging park for electric trucks in Niestetal, near Kassel in central Germany. The site is located close to Germany’s A7 motorway, one of Europe’s busiest north–south freight corridors, and combines megawatt charging with on-site renewable energy generation and battery storage. It is designed to supply heavy battery-electric trucks with charging power of up to 1,000kW. This makes it one of the first publicly accessible MCS-equipped truck charging sites in Germany. Construction of the facility began in December 2025.
To ensure a reliable energy supply, Energiesysteme Groß operates its own solar park at the company’s industrial site. This solar park has a peak capacity of 2.1 MWp and is supported by a battery storage system with a capacity of 1,000 kWh for buffering. The battery enables solar energy generated during the day to be stored and used for truck charging during periods of higher demand or outside daylight hours.
The charging park features three truck bays, each equipped with Alpitronic’s HYC1000 system. This system consists of a central power unit and three dispensers. Each dispenser provides both MCS charging with up to 1,000kW of power and CCS connections with up to 480kW. Unlike many motorway truck charging concepts that favour drive-through layouts, the charging bays require trucks to reverse out after charging.
