Hyderabad:Platform workers and gig workers have asked the government to establish a fair minimum base fare, revise per-kilometre and per-minute charges, and set a transparent ceiling on platform commissions to protect drivers’ earnings. Suggesting changes to the Telangana Motor Vehicles Aggregator Rules, 2026, they requested the government to ensure mandatory health insurance, accident insurance, pension, and maternity benefits.They also want the platforms (like Uber and Ola) to disclose fare calculations, incentives, penalties, and account deactivation policies.Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) has submitted the draft Telangana Motor Vehicles Aggregator Rules, 2026, to the Telangana Government, incorporating the key suggestions.The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU), the Indian Federation of App-based Transport Workers (IFAT), and a few other organisations have compiled the draft rules.“Platform companies should not block or suspend the ID numbers without prior notice and reason. There should be an independent appeal mechanism to challenge such decisions,” TGPWU Founder-President Shaik Salauddin said.“Drivers must be free to work with multiple aggregators without restrictions. Every driver should receive a contract in Telugu and Urdu clearly explaining their rights and obligations. There should be a time-bound grievance resolution with an independent appellate authority,” he said.The government should hold discussions with registered driver unions before framing or amending rules.“Drivers should be provided with rest areas, sanitation facilities, medical support, and emergency assistance. These suggestions are consistent with the driver welfare and onboarding provisions discussed in the draft document,” he said.Published on July 28, 2026
