Tactical Response Team Captain Alfred Sekgobela told the Johannesburg High Court on Tuesday that Musa Kekana gave police permission to search his vehicle and later his home after his arrest, as the State continued leading evidence in a trial-within-a-trial over the admissibility of evidence against the accused.
A bloodstained jersey, a towel and an ambulance became the focus of testimony in the Johannesburg High Court on Tuesday as Captain Alfred Sekgobela recounted the moments after Musa Kekana's arrest, amid an ongoing legal fight over whether evidence collected that day can be used against him.
This emerged during the trial-within-a-trial into the admissibility of evidence obtained during the arrest of accused Kekana, who is accused number one, continued as the trial of alleged cartel member Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala resumed.
The hearing, held within the main trial, will determine whether evidence gathered by police following Kekana's arrest on April 17, 2024, can be admitted.
Sekgobela, who began testifying on Monday, was continuing with explaining the events leading to Kekana’s arrest, which took place hours after the killing of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.
