Council considered possible threats to European interests, says EU's executive
A delay to releasing EU satellite imagery linked to the US–Israeli war on Iran will “stay in place as long as it is necessary”, the Commission told Euractiv on Tuesday.
The 24-hour delay to releasing satellite imagery taken by the EU’s Copernicus satellites Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 over parts of the Middle East was first reported by space industry trade press SpaceNews on Friday.
The Commission spokesperson also confirmed that the delay was approved by the 27 EU foreign ministers on 13 July.
“The measure was introduced to mitigate possible security risks in light of the war in the Middle East and possible threats to European interests,” they said via email on Tuesday.
