The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has rejected unfounded and unsubstantiated allegations by Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Aboudi that Ukraine was allegedly involved in unlawful activities on Iraqi territory.
That is according to a commentary published on the ministry's website, Ukrinform reports.
"There are no facts or evidence to support these allegations, as the Iraqi official himself acknowledged in his interview," the statement said.
The ministry noted that prior to making such high-profile public statements, the Iraqi side had not conveyed any relevant information or concerns to Ukraine through diplomatic channels.
"If the allegations had any basis whatsoever, it would be logical to expect such communication. Instead, the Ukrainian side learned about the accusations from a live television broadcast. We consider it unacceptable and irresponsible for a senior official of a friendly state to publicly make such statements without proper evidence. This runs counter to the principles of mutual respect and harms Ukrainian-Iraqi relations," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
