The Greater Chennai Police arrested a 19-year-old for allegedly snatching a mobile phone from a 95-year-old man in Anna Nagar. A 17-year-old juvenile involved in the case was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.According to the police, Viswanathan, a resident of T. Block, Anna Nagar, regularly goes for a morning walk at the Anna Nagar Tower Park. Early Saturday morning, after completing his walk, he was returning home on 3rd Main Road when two youths on a motorcycle intercepted him, snatched his mobile phone, and fled.Based on a complaint lodged by the victim, Anna Nagar Crime Wing investigated and arrested Ajay Kumar (19) of Naval Hospital Road, Periamet on Monday (July 27, 2026).The police also questioned a 17-year-old juvenile in connection with the case. The stolen mobile phone was recovered from the accused, and the scooter used in the offence was seized.The police said inquiries revealed that Ajay Kumar has a criminal history, with around five previous cases registered against him, including theft, robbery, and narcotics-related offences.
