Xiyang county in Jinzhong, Shanxi province, is drawing an average of 30,000 tourists a day to its revamped Na Nian Xiyang (Memories of Old Xiyang) scenic spot, as counties across China tap nostalgia to fuel their nighttime economies over the summer.
Centered on the culture of the 1980s and 1990s, the block features vintage exhibits, all donated by locals, alongside retro real-scene settings that create an immersive atmosphere.
By integrating nighttime dining, entertainment, and other businesses, the county has turned its cultural resources into a driver of after-dark consumption, part of a broader wave of new nighttime formats springing up nationwide since the start of summer vacation.
