Political risk may lie ahead for Greece if a government does not emerge from the next election, says Wolfango Piccoli, head of geopolitics at Consello, a consulting firm for executives in London.
The experienced analyst tells Kathimerini there is a risk politics becomes a source of instability, compared to the last eight years when it was a source of strength.
“This certainty now seems to be evaporating quickly. Although we do not yet have an election date, the country is already on an electoral trajectory and the environment is not clear – we could see a fragmentation of the political space and difficulty in forming a government. The concern here is that due to prolonged uncertainty, we may see investment decisions postponed, foreign direct investment slowed down, etc,” he says.
He expresses concern about the possible development of the US-Iran conflict into a war of attrition, noting that the effects will be uneven, with Greece paying a heavy price in terms of energy balance and inflation.
“Greece is obviously an energy-dependent country, so there could be a direct impact on this front. There is also an indirect impact, on inflation,” says Piccoli.
