Consumer companies rose after strong earnings from one luxury bellwether.

LVMH posted an acceleration in revenue growth for the second quarter, on strong sales of Louis Vuitton leather goods, Dior fragrances and other premium items. Among other companies catering to wealthy shoppers, Ferrari and Moncler were higher, while Hermes was more or less flat.
