MANILA, Philippines — Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri said Monday that the Senate would try to accomplish before Christmas President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call to stop passing on system loss charges to consumers.
Marcos, during his penultimate State of the Nation Address (Sona), called for the immediate amendment of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (Epira) to prohibit charging consumers for system losses, including the value-added tax (VAT) imposed on them.
“We’ll try to do it before Christmas. So, as majority floor leader, I guarantee you, we will get the best and brightest on top of it,” Zubiri told reporters in an ambush interview after the Sona.
He was asked how soon the people can benefit from this call and around how many months this would take.
