IPID confirmed its investigating the death of a Nigerian national
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has launched an investigation into the death of Chika Simon Ibeh, who allegedly became unresponsive while police officers were searching a Parklands apartment for drugs.
The investigation relates to a Bellville police case and will examine whether Ibeh’s death occurred as a result of police action.
According to IPID, members of the South African Police Service’s Public Order Policing unit, based at Faure Base, accompanied by Crime Intelligence officials, went to an apartment at the Parksig Villas complex in Parklands on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
The officers were reportedly acting on information that a person at the apartment was in possession of drugs.
