The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has launched an investigation into the death of Chika Simon Ibeh, after a post-mortem examination allegedly revealed multiple injuries following a police operation at a Parklands apartment last week.
According to an IPID spokesperson, the investigation relates to the circumstances surrounding Ibeh’s death during a police search at the Parksig Villas Complex in Parklands, Cape Town, on July 23, 2026.
IPID said members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Public Order Policing unit based at Faure, accompanied by Crime Intelligence officials, had acted on information that a person at the apartment was allegedly in possession of drugs.
“It is alleged that on Thursday, members of SAPS Public Order Policing based at Faure Base, accompanied by Crime Intelligence went to search an apartment in Parksig Villas Complex, Parklands, Western Cape, after receiving a tip-off that someone was in possession of drugs,” the IPID said.
