Pasumai Ulagam, a non-governmental organisation, distributed certificates to women who completed the sixth batch of its tailoring training programme at a function held recently in the district.A release said trainees were given an orientation on market opportunities, employment prospects and the procedures for setting up tailoring units to help them become self-reliant entrepreneurs.The non-governmental organisation, which has been working since 2000 for the welfare of marginalised women, underprivileged youth and children in rural areas and urban slums, provides free vocational and skill development training to women identified as the “poorest among the poor”. The training covers computer literacy, paramedical services, beautician courses, tailoring and garment making, toy making, pot painting and millet snack preparation. The organisation also provides placement assistance to trainees and extends business training and seed funding to women who wish to start their own enterprises.G.
