In a major initiative to promote women’s empowerment and sustainable livelihoods, the JSW Foundation on Monday distributed certificates and sewing machines to 270 rural women who have successfully completed a month-long tailoring training programme.The programme, implemented under the Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) initiative of JSW Cement and Steel, in Ballari district, covered 10 villages – Naglapura, Basapura, Talur, Joga, Hosa Daroji, Madhapura, Lingadalli, Kodalu, Chikkanthapura and Dodda Anthapura – in five gram panchayats.As many as 27 women from each one of these villages underwent training.Designed to enhance livelihood opportunities, the programme equipped participants with market-oriented tailoring skills, including sewing machine operations, garment stitching techniques and practical tailoring.The trainees were also introduced to basic entrepreneurship concepts to encourage self-employment and sustainable income generation.To provide practical exposure beyond classroom sessions, the participants visited Tarang Tailoring Training Centre and O.P. Jindal Centre where they gained first-hand experience of professional tailoring practices and enterprise management.As part of the programme’s next phase, all 270 women were provided with sewing machines to help them establish home-based tailoring units, generate regular income and improve the economic well-being of their families.Inaugurating the certificate and sewing machine distribution ceremony at JSW Foundation’s office in O.P. Jindal Centre in Toranagallu, Ballari district, Commercial Vice-President, JSW Steel, Bhuvaneswari Murugan highlighted the transformative role of skill development in empowering women.She said that continuous learning and skill enhancement are essential for creating sustainable livelihoods and enabling individuals to become self-reliant.Speaking on the occasion, South India Zonal Head, JSW Foundation, Peddanna Beedala said that tailoring is a lifelong skill that keeps open avenues for self-employment and financial independence.He noted that the training programme has not only equipped women with technical skills but has also instilled confidence in them to become economically self-sufficient and contribute to the progress of their families.The participants were presented with certificates and sewing machines by Senior Vice-President, JSW, Sunil Raulph and Location Head, JSW Foundation, Vijayanagara, Bharathi Palaniswami.Skill and Livelihood Lead, JSW Foundation, Shrestha Bhattacharjee, Chief Innovation Officer, Gram Vikas Foundation, Sachin Alatagi, Director, Gram Vikas Foundation, Ashwini Alatagi Naik and other officials were present.
