As Spring starts to whisper in the air, international volunteer group ASEZ WAO led a tree planting campaign in the City of Tshwane over the weekend known as the Mother’s Forest project.
ASEZ WAO is a young adult volunteer group of the World Mission Society Church of God, commonly known as the Church of God.
Introducing the campaign, one of its representatives said the project is a “climate change response activity that protects the Earth, the foundation of life, with the heart of a mother who cares for her family, by planting trees – carbon sinks – in many places around the world and removing invasive plants”. The representative said they hope citizens will join them in the organisation and help protect the environment.
Around 70 people, including ASEZ WAO members and local residents, planted 50 trees at five schools, including Kgomotso High School in Soshanguve on Sunday. The tree species planted include mango, which is expected to help provide food for students and local residents in the future.
