The Oscar-winning actor has partnered with the Foundation for Women’s Health (FWH) to fund a research grant aimed at accelerating the development of non-invasive and minimally invasive treatments for uterine fibroids.
The announcement, made on July 15, marked a significant moment in women’s health advocacy because the focus is not only on awareness but also on finding better treatment options.
Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the uterus.
Some women have no symptoms. For others, they can mean heavy menstrual bleeding, anaemia, pelvic pain, painful sex, frequent urination, fertility problems and a quality of life that slowly becomes organised around managing pain and blood loss.
