MANILA, Philippines— Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri said he would bring back the “ice cream diplomacy” in the Senate to cool down the heated tensions brought about by the recent changes in the chamber’s leadership.
Although he said he was still ironing out some issues, Zubiri reported that he had a productive discussion with Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano where they agreed to pass non-controversial measures identified as priorities by the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council.
“There are still some hard feelings between members of the minority and the majority. That’s what I’m working to resolve right now,” he told reporters after the Senate’s opening of the second regular session of the 20th Congress.
