The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has called for the immediate redeployment of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, alleging that the prevailing security situation in the state has eroded public confidence in his ability to guarantee a peaceful, free and credible governorship election.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its South West Zonal Organising Secretary, Comrade Wale Balogun, the party also condemned the recent wave of politically motivated violence and killings in the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election, urging political actors to allow "the ballot, not the bullet" determine the outcome of the poll.

Quoting former President Goodluck Jonathan's widely cited remark that no Nigerian's life was worth his re-election, the party said, "His statesmanship remains a timeless reminder that political ambition must never come at the cost of innocent blood."
