Jacob Zuma takes control of candidate nominations for MKP local elections

Jacob Zuma is alleged to have decided to appoint MKP candidates for the local government elections rather than allowing structures to nominate them.

UMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) President Jacob Zuma has allegedly stopped his party’s nomination of candidates for the local government elections and taken it upon himself to appoint them, including mayoral contenders, said the party's KwaZulu-Natal MPL.

Political parties are currently busy identifying candidates for the November 4 elections, and online candidate list submission is open until the elections are proclaimed.

Former ANC eThekwini chairperson Zandile Gumede is seen as the trump card for the MKP, which she recently joined, as she might bring in traditional ANC voters.

The MKP MPL said: “You know ubaba (Zuma) appoints and dismisses, and he does not have time for games.”
