Plans to extend the popular St James coastal walkway have moved a step closer after an anonymous Cape Town family committed to funding the first phase of the project.

An anonymous donation is paving the way for the St James coastal walkway extension, enhancing public access and preserving Cape Town's coastline.

The family approached Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis in 2025 with an offer to fund the first phase of the extension from Muizenberg towards Clovelly Corner.

While funding for the first phase has been secured, City officials say it is still too early to determine which section will be built first or when construction could begin.

The City's mayoral committee member for spatial planning and environment, Eddie Andrews, said the final section to be funded has not yet been determined
