The Foreshore Freeway Bridge, also known as Cape Town's Unfinished Bridge
One of Cape Town's most recognisable landmarks, the unfinished Foreshore Freeway Bridge, could finally become a fully functioning transport link after standing incomplete for nearly five decades.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has publicly revealed that the City is "well on its way" to completing the long-standing project, with the first proposed designs expected to be released for public comment in September.
The elevated structure, often referred to as the "bridge to nowhere", has dominated the city's skyline since construction was halted in 1977 after funding ran out.
Hill-Lewis said while there was still a significant amount of work to be done before construction could begin, the City had made progress behind the scenes.
