Plans to extend the popular St James coastal walkway have moved a step closer after an anonymous Cape Town family committed to funding the first phase of the project.
A generous donation from an anonymous Cape Town family has brought the long-held vision of extending the popular St James coastal walkway a step closer to reality.
The family approached Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis in 2025 with an offer to fund the first phase of the extension from Muizenberg towards Clovelly Corner, allowing the project to move into its planning and approval stages.
While funding for the first phase has been secured, City officials say it is still too early to determine which section will be built first or when construction could begin.
The City's mayco member for spatial planning and environment, Eddie Andrews, told the False Bay Echo that the final section to be funded has not yet been determined.
