Bandits have abducted the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Nura Umar, after attacking his residence in Bungudu town.
The assailants, who struck on Friday night, killed two policemen and two members of the vigilante group attached to the chairman’s residence during the attack.
The bandits abducted Umar alongside his wife and children but later released the family while keeping the council boss in captivity.
A family member, Anas Ibrahim, told our correspondent that the bandits released the chairman’s wife and children after giving him the option of choosing between his freedom and that of his family.
“The bandits gave the chairman the option to choose between releasing him or his family and he chose to be in captivity. All the family members are now back home and waiting for further information or directive from the bandits,” Ibrahim said.
