Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have rescued a family of five abducted by bandits and recovered an AK-47 rifle in separate anti-banditry operations across the state, the police said on Wednesday.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Yazid Abubakar, the rescue followed a fierce gun battle between the police and heavily armed bandits along the Gummi–Sokoto Road.
Abubakar said the incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday when "a large number of armed bandits blocked the Gummi–Sokoto Road, intercepted a Golf vehicle with registration number BE 654 ANC (Kaduna), and abducted its occupants with the intention of taking them to an unknown destination."
