The 1st Azov Corps of Ukraine's National Guard, together with adjacent Defense Forces units, repelled a large-scale assault involving two Russian armies and a tank division in the Donetsk region.
According to Ukrinform, National Guard Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko announced the operation on Facebook.
"On July 22, the occupiers launched an assault in the area of responsibility of the 1st Azov Corps using forces from the 8th and 41st Combined Arms Armies, as well as the 90th Tank Division, supported by dozens of armored and light military vehicles," Pivnenko said.
He noted that Russia's 41st Guards Combined Arms Army and the 90th Guards Vitebsk-Novgorod Tank Division advanced from the area of the settlement of Novoekonomichne, while units of the 8th Guards Combined Arms Army simultaneously attacked from the direction of the village of Vozdvyzhenka. Over the course of four hours, Russian forces attempted to advance toward settlements near the village of Shakhove.
According to Pivnenko, the Russian military covered the assault with Gerbera and Lancet attack drones.
