Two days before UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is due in Cyprus, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides in Athens on Saturday and said coordination between the two countries was “more timely than ever” amid renewed regional tensions and movement on the Cyprus issue.
Mitsotakis warned that “the drums of war” were sounding again in the wider region.
He reiterated Greece’s support for restarting talks within the framework of UN Security Council resolutions and said the moment carried urgency as Guterres nears the end of his term.
Christodoulides described the period as a critical juncture, saying Cyprus’ strategy had helped generate international interest.
