Moments after landing at Toronto’s Pearson airport on a flight from Edmonton in late March, she turned off airplane mode on her phone and an email pinged into her inbox. It was from the landlord who was supposed to be providing her the rental unit she was planning on moving into that night, but he told her he suddenly couldn’t bring the keys because of a family emergency.
