President Iliana Yotova announced that she will run in Bulgaria's presidential election in the fall of 2026, confirming for the first time that she will seek a full term as head of state.
Speaking on BNT's Panorama program, Yotova gave a direct answer to months of speculation about her political future.
"Yes, I will run," she said, adding that her candidacy will be nominated by an initiative committee rather than a political party.
Yotova became president earlier this year after former President Rumen Radev resigned to run in the parliamentary elections. His Progressive Bulgaria party won the vote and now governs with an independent majority. Before assuming the presidency, Yotova served as vice president throughout Radev's two terms, holding the office for nine years.
Asked whether Radev would support her campaign, Yotova said that decision rests entirely with him. She also said she values support from ordinary citizens as much as endorsements from public figures.
