The Peoples Trust presidential candidate in the 2019 election and Co-Chairman of the Movement for Democratic Renewal, Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has said the country cannot achieve democratic renewal without the active participation of workers in governance and national development.

Olawepo-Hashim stated this on Friday during the inauguration of the Movement for Democratic Renewal in the Federal Capital Territory at the Nigeria Labour Congress Labour House, Abuja.

The event, organised in collaboration with the NLC FCT Council, brought together labour coordinators from affiliate unions, labour leaders and other democratic stakeholders to inaugurate the movement in the FCT and mobilise support for a nationwide campaign for democratic renewal, accountable leadership and national restoration.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Kamaldeen Sanni, Olawepo-Hashim said workers should no longer be treated merely as voters during elections but must become active participants in governance, policymaking and national development.
