The Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos South-West, Anglican Communion, Rev Ebenezer Adewole, has called on Christians to return to Biblical values, saying many professing believers now contribute to corruption and other practices that undermine the gospel.
Adewole spoke while delivering his presidential address at the opening of the first session of the inaugural Synod of the newly created Diocese of Lagos South-West, held under the theme, “Transformation,” drawn from 2 Corinthians 3:18, on Friday.
The bishop lamented what he described as a growing disconnection between the Christian faith and the conduct of many believers, stressing that the Church must recommit itself to genuine spiritual transformation.
Quoting Romans 12:2, Adewole urged Christians “not to conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,” saying believers are called to become more like Christ “in thought, in word and in deed.”
He said, “One major reason for this contemporary challenge is the lack of an ongoing commitment to spiritual transformation. A sustained commitment to transformation produces increasing Christ-likeness that fosters the growth of godly virtues within our churches, communities and nation.
