The Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, Rt. Rev. Olusola Odedeji, has decried the state of Nigeria’s economy, while expressing optimism that the country will “get out of the woods” in the near future.

He made the remark while delivering his presidential address at the Third Session of the Ninth Synod of the diocese, held on Friday at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Cathedral Church, Ikeja, Lagos state.

According to a statement released on Saturday, Bishop Odedeji said the purchasing power of Nigerians had been severely weakened, adding that the value of the naira had significantly declined.

“The naira has lost value. Sometimes you are afraid to open your phone because of the numerous requests and bank account numbers that will be waiting for you. Things are that bad,” he said.
