Maruti Suzuki is banking on its expanding Kharkhoda manufacturing facility in Haryana to strengthen its position in India’s fiercely contested SUV market, with increased production of Brezza, Fronx and Victoris expected to ease supply constraints and support future growth. The automaker currently has an annual production capacity of 5 lakh vehicles at the Kharkhoda plant following the commissioning of its second manufacturing line in May. The facility is slated to be expanded to 10 lakh units annually, forming a key pillar of Maruti Suzuki’s long-term strategy to raise its overall production capacity to four million vehicles a year.Speaking during the launch of the refreshed Brezza, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, said additional capacity at Kharkhoda would help improve availability of the company’s popular SUVs, particularly the Brezza and Fronx, which have faced production limitations.Maruti Suzuki had only around seven days of Brezza inventory at dealerships at the beginning of January, highlighting the supply challenges that have impacted sales momentum. Banerjee acknowledged that demand often exceeded the number of vehicles available for delivery.“Believe me, when you came in April, I said I will have some additional vehicles and you will see things improve,” he said, referring to the supply constraints that affected the Brezza’s market share performance.Despite limited availability, Brezza volumes rose 38 per cent in the first quarter of FY27, according to Banerjee. The company is currently retailing close to 15,000 units of the compact SUV every month. He stressed that sales performance must be viewed in the context of the number of vehicles available in the market rather than customer demand alone. The Brezza has faced growing competition from rivals including the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Skoda Kylaq, all of which have strengthened their presence in the compact SUV segment.Maruti Suzuki recently refreshed the Brezza with a turbo-petrol engine option and an underbody-mounted CNG tank designed to preserve luggage space, broadening the model’s appeal among buyers. The company officially manufactures the Brezza and Victoris at Kharkhoda and plans to add the Fronx to the facility’s production mix. Banerjee said output allocation among the three SUVs would be determined by booking trends and market demand. With added capacity now available, the immediate challenge for Maruti Suzuki will be converting strong customer demand into faster deliveries and higher retail sales as competition in the SUV market continues to intensify.Published on July 24, 2026
